WORKING
PRINCIPAL:
These expand radially
inward when pressurized. This constricting tube forces
friction shoes on against cylinderical drums. This Air pressure
pressurizing the tube determines the clutch torque. More pressure more is the torque transmited.
Release springs ensure
total instant disengagement on release of air.
|
ADVANTAGES
:
*
Airtube applies force at the maximum radius from axis.
* Uniform contact velocity at drum-shoe interface.
* Self adjusting, no adjustment for wear.
* It requires no lubrication.
* Centrifugal forces assist clutch disengagements.
* It operates in any plane.
* Highly efficient, rugged & reliable.
* Flexible rubber reinforced air tube dampen the shocks &
compensate for slight misalignment.
* Full 3600 friction surface.

This type is generally used in Clutch & Brake applications
where large inertia loads are involved resulting in loss of torque
& operating life. In this torque is transmitted by torque bars
rather than the side walls of actvating air tube. In this
friction shoes side plates have large air passages which allows
air to flow through the clutch. This type of clutches can take
substantial amount of slip.
